A wonderful person who I met in Mexico years ago posted this picture on Facebook and something really rang true with me. It’s a peaceful picture, inspiring inner calmness and recognize your ability to give up control. Nothing is under control. Nothing can be controlled.
While I really like this picture for the spiritual message, I think it also provides a good reminder for the families, care partners, and individuals living with dementia symptoms. You don’t have to control everything. You don’t have to control anything. Ultimately, the things that you try to control will teach you that you have no power to control. And, if you listen carefully, you realize that there is no power in controlling. It is a much healthier outlook to give up control and desires for control and foster the go-with-the-flow attitude that you already have within you.
Happy non-controlling, my friends!
